’Tis the season of glorious hope—a hope that is rooted and grounded in the coming of a Savior. Yet all too often, when we think of Christmas today, our minds turn to gifts, Santa, and the hustle and bustle of the busy world in which we live.
We become caught up in questions of who we are buying gifts for, how much we should spend, and what we will prepare for Christmas dinner. Along with these come countless other thoughts, cares, and concerns that crowd our lives during the Christmas season.
With so many earthly matters occupying our minds, we often lose sight of the true reason for celebrating Christmas. The world is full of tempting distractions, constantly competing for our attention.
Social media algorithms align with our thoughts, concerns, and purchasing habits, presenting everything the world claims it has to offer—false hope, false happiness, false joy, and false comfort. Yet nothing in this world is everlasting. All that it offers will eventually fade. The world will disappoint us and let us down.
But there is One for whom we wait.
His coming brings true hope, joy, peace, and lasting contentment. He will never let us down, abandon us, or forsake us. He is the One whose birth we celebrate on Christmas Day.
Our hope is found in one—and only one. His names are Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Light of the World, and King of Kings.
He is our Savior, and His name is Jesus. There is hope found in no one else. As Acts 4:12 reminds us:
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
And Jesus Himself declares in John 14:6:
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
So today, as we come together to celebrate Christmas, let our hearts and minds be reminded of the greatest gift of all—a Savior, born in a lowly manger, given as a ransom for all.
And His name is Jesus.
